Self-care means taking the time to do things that make you feel good and improve both your mental and physical wellbeing, self-care is just taking care of yourself. There are a number of simple ways you can indulge in selfcare, every person will find different ways that work best for them. Here are a few easy suggestions and activities you can add into your day-to-day routine to help you feel better in yourself and more energised.
Get a good night’s sleep
Set a sleep routine – have a wake up time, a wind down time and a set time you would like to fall asleep in place. This will help set your body clock, getting your body into a steady rhythm.
Eat right
A balanced diet is essential to self-care as the food you eat can impact the way feel. Try to plan nourishing, varied meals throughout the week. Remember to treat yourself to the foods you love too, eating your favourite snack at the end of a tough day will start to relax you and boost your mood.
Exercise
Introduce exercise into your routine, even if it is a half an hour walk in the evening or joining the gym, exercise increase endorphins, leaving you feeling happier and reducing anxiety and stress. Exercise also has physical benefits such as strengthening bones and muscles and improving your overall ability to do everyday task.
Say no when you need to
We often feel obligated to say yes when asked to things for family and friends as you feel as though you are letting them down but by saying no when you feel you need to puts your needs first.
Take time for yourself
Dedicate some ‘me’ time each day to do something that you want to do. This can be reading a book, watching a tv show or to do nothing at all. Giving yourself this time will allow you to become comfortable in your own company and build more social energy.
