The Christmas period really is one of the busiest and most commonly stressful times of year. In between running around tying up last-minute Christmas gifts and preparing for the big day, implementing small moments of self-care into your break makes all the difference. Here are the Sleepeezee team’s favorite ways to wind down this Christmas period.
Get Outdoors
With the darker, gloomier weather at this time of year, it can be challenging to get out, but your mind and body will thank you for it. Being in nature helps with stress and anger management and staying indoors can make it easier to suffer with that ‘cabin fever’ feeling when you’re cooped up indoors.
Whether a walk in your local park or a family bike ride, the benefits of being outdoors are bountiful for winding down over the Christmas period.
Exercise
Getting a hit of happy hormones whilst working out is a great way to beat the winter blues. Going out on a gentle run, taking part in a gym class or practising yoga sequences are all great ways to keep fit, whilst soothing your mind.
Balance is Key
Eating and drinking with a balance is key to boosting your body and mood, especially during the winter. This can look like enjoying festive treats whilst ensuring you’re still eating lots of vegetables and fruit to support your immune system. Drinking alcohol in moderation is also key and has a huge impact on your quality of sleep.
Prioritise Sleep
Socialising and increased workloads are significant contributors to many of us getting a lack of sleep during the festive season. A consequence of this is feeling tired, low in energy and in mood.
Sticking to a rough sleep-wake schedule will help maintain some stability in your mental and physical health over the winter months.
