Each year, most of us begin the new year by setting new-year-new-me intentions for self-improvement and personal change. Health-related resolutions are some of the most common, with losing weight, exercising more often and eating a healthier diet among the most popular.

Getting better sleep or improving sleep habits is one of the more overlooked health goals, but it really is where all health resolutions begin. Sleeping better can enhance physical, mental and emotional health and help generate the energy and self-control necessary to achieve other goals.

Setting achievable sleep resolutions is important for improving wellness and living a healthier life. Sleep enables our bodies to function better, sharpens our thinking and strengthens our physical and mental health. It can also help us achieve our other goals, whether that’s exercising more regularly, losing weight or being more productive at work.

When making your new year’s sleep resolutions, you want to ensure they are measurable and achievable. Your goals should be realistic which often means taking small steps rather than trying to make one big change. You should also be able to easily track whether you’re meeting this goal.

In light of this, we’ve gathered some new-year-new-me sleep resolution suggestions from our team:
  • Stop drinking caffeine after lunchtime because it can interfere with my sleep
  • Start putting my phone away from my sleep space at least 30 minutes before I go to bed
  • Develop a three-step bedtime routine that I follow every night to help relax before bed
  • Invest in new pillows that support my body and natural sleep position
  • Take time to do 20 minutes of stretching each morning to set myself up for the day
  • Ensure I drink enough water and stay hydrated throughout the day
  • Spend more time outdoors every day which will help improve my sleep quality
  • Wake up when my alarm goes off
